Leaf chains
Leaf (Flyer) chains are manufactured in accordance with DIN 8152 in light and heavy types.
A leaf chain consists of a range of pins. The entire length of each pin is fitted with plates of neighbouring links in various combinations based on the particular leaf chain type. The outer plates are pressed and the pin ends are riveted. The end plates are used for fixed clamping of the chain ends. These chains are employed for traction and load bearing functions. They are not suitable for use as driving chains due to their construction which does not allow the incorporation of chain wheels. They can be employed where steel ropes are not recommended.
