Chains Drives

Applications:

  • torque transmission from a driving wheel onto a driven wheel - i.e. chain drive
  • traction power transmission - e.g. load lifting

The chain drive, in terms of its arrangement, is similar to the belt drive, simultaneously featuring some properties of the geared wheel drive:

  • accurate transmission ratio without slippage
  • possible torque transmission to larger distances
  • no overstress during operation - thus no overloading of bearings
  • possible transmission of larger outputs
  • transmission ratios up to 1:10
  • peripheral velocity up to 15 m/sec (according to the chain size and construction)
  • usability at different temperatures of the work environment
  • maximum efficiency of 98% upon correct lubrication
  • minimum space demands, practically the only space within a plane is taken up during installation
  • the chains can be dismantled which facilitates their replacement
  • simple and reliable operation
  • minimum maintenance requirements compared with other drive types.

Roller chains

Roller chains are produced according to ČSN 02 3301, their dimensions corresponding to ČSN 02 3315 and ČSN 02 3311 and the related standard versions. Depending on the type, the chains are manufactured in due compliance with DIN 8187, DIN 8188 or DIN 8181. Apart from the standard variety of chains, our manufacturing programme also caters to non- standard roller chains produced according to our internal documentation.

A roller chain is formed by the connection of inner and outer links. The mutual mobility of the neighbouring links is made possible by the revolving installation of the pin of the outer link in the bush of the inner link. Fitted in each bush is a revolving roller, which reduces friction upon approaching the chain wheel. That is why this type of chain is suitable for application in higher peripheral velocities. Transmission of higher outputs requires duplex or triplex chains.

Chains usually have the same number of inner and outer links, the total number of links thus being even. To facilitate assembly, usually one outer link is replaced by a connecting link. If a chain with an odd number of links is required, an offset link is used, which allows for transition from the inner to the outer link. The use of the offset link, however, results in reduction of the static strength of the chain by up to 30%. The roller chain provides a wide range of application at continuous operation. The advantage of roller chain is high efficiency of power transmission, operating safety, minimal deterioration of sprockets and high peripheral velocity of the chain.

Conveyor chains

Conveyor chains are manufactured according to DIN 8165, ČSN 26 0401, DIN 8167 and DIN 8168. Conveyor chains according to DIN 8165, ČSN 26 0401 and DIN 8167 are constructed either as bush chains or with different types of rollers ( small roller, plain roller or flanged roller ). These chains can also be delivered with various types of attachments – either rivetted or welded to the chain.

Conveyor roller chains are produced according to the internal documentation. Chains could have toothed attachment plates, extended pins or U-attachments with vulcanised rubber profiles. The non standard attachment shapes are available on request. These chains are predominantly destined for different kinds of conveyors and conveyor lines.

Bush chains

Bush chains are manufactured in accordance with ČSN 02 3301 and in dimensions according to ČSN 02 3329. Our manufacturing programme also includes non-standard bush chains produced according to our internal documentation.

A bush chain is very similar to the roller chain. However, it does not have friction - reducing rollers and is thus suitable rather for lower driving speeds. The permitted standard movement speeds of the slow-running bush chains range from 0.3 m/sec to 1.2 m/sec, with a maximum of 3.0 m/sec. Bush chains are most frequently used in applications requiring continuous operation under coarse working conditions as well as operation in warm and humid environment where the use of belt drives would be inappropriate.

Gall Chains

Gall Chains are manufactured according to ČSN 02 3330 and DIN 8150.We also offer non-standard chains produced according to our internal documentation.

As for the construction, these chains are fabricated from a row of pins whose stepped ends carry revolving plates. The pin ends are riveted. A connecting pin is used for linking the two chain ends. The connecting pin consists of a non-stepped pin, an expanding roller and cotters. Larger chains have washers placed under the cotters. Gall chains are mostly used as load bearing chains and also for slow transmission of large traction power at a maximum speed of 0.3 m/sec.

Leaf (Fleyer) Chains

Leaf (Fleyer) Chains are manufactured in accordance with DIN 8152 in light and heavy types.

A leaf chain consists of a range of pins. The entire length of each pin is fitted with plates of neighbouring links in various combinations based on the particular leaf chain type. The outer plates are pressed and the pin ends are riveted. The end plates are used for fixed clamping of the chain ends. These chains are employed for traction and load bearing functions. They are not suitable for use as driving chains due to their construction which does not allow the incorporation of chain wheels. They can be employed where steel ropes are not recommended.

Agricultural Chains

We offer a wide range of chains for use in agriculture in various types of chain conveyors, in combined adapters for example for maize or sunflower, for hop pickers and in machines for pulling down hops, for straw baler presses or for threshing machines.
